Missouri takes action against alleged Ponzi scam

St. Louis Business Journal - 6.22.09 - More than $800,000 of investor funds were disbursed among real estate ventures that the Bird family controlled or were affiliated with, according to the securities division of Secretary of State Robin Carnahan’s office...Investigators also believe that some early investors received interest payments from funds belonging to subsequent investors, a trademark of Ponzi schemes.

Carnahan Targets Real Estate Scheme

Fox2 St. Louis - 6.22.09 - Missouri's secretary of state has issued a cease and desist order against a father and son and their company alleging they operated a real estate investment scheme that has cost investors in four states more than $1.7 million....Carnahan's order says the family owned Chaparral I LLC took money from investors and disbursed them among real estate ventures either controlled by or affiliated with the Bird family.
