Carnahan Kicks Off Older Americans Month by Encouraging Wise and Safe Investing

Carnahan Secures $380,000 for Missouri Seniors

From the SOS Office: Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan today announced a $755,000 settlement with A.G. Edwards & Sons, LLC, after her securities investigators discovered that the firm sold variable annuities to elderly customers without proper documentation for the transactions. In the consent order issued this week, A.G. Edwards agreed to pay $381,993 to 31 Missouri investors across the state. The settlement ends a lengthy Missouri Securities Division investigation triggered by a complaint by an 81-year old Southwest Missouri investor after the liquidation of a variable annuity.

Secretary of State Carnahan to Observe Nigerian Election

From the SOS Office: Secretary of State Robin Carnahan is serving as a co-leader of a bipartisan international election observation team in Nigeria for the Presidential election on April 16th. The delegation, organized through the National Democratic Institute (NDI), will meet with senior government and election officials, political party representatives, candidates, citizen election monitors, civil society leaders, and media representatives.

Carnahan Announces More Than 1,000 Crime Victims Protected through the Safe at Home Program

From the SOS Office: Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan today announced that more than 1,000 Missourians have used the Safe at Home address confidentiality service since it was enacted in 2007. Safe at Home allows victims of sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking to keep their home address secure and confidential, which limits an assailant’s ability to locate their victims. Carnahan held news conferences this week in St. Louis and Columbia to recognize Sexual Assault Awareness Month and highlight the need for this vital service.

Carnahan Receives Missouri Victim Assistance Network Award For Work on Safe at Home Program

From the SOS Office: Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan has received the James P. Damos Award from the Missouri Victim Assistance Network. The award, which was announced today in St. Joseph, Mo., recognizes a Missourian who has made a significant difference to victims of crime above and beyond their designated responsibilities. Carnahan was nominated for the award primarily for her work establishing Safe at Home, an address confidentiality program which has served more than 1,000 Missourians since it was established in 2007.
